Default Transmission problem

I have a 95 Camaro Z28 with an automatic transmission. Last night I stopped at a stop sign and when I took off, the car jerked hard and wouldn't shift past 2nd gear. I only have 2 gears now, 1st and 2nd. Any ideas?

Check fluid level. If OK, it is time to visit a transmission shop.

Fluid level is fine. Anybody ever had a problem like this? My dad said it may have been a band for my higher gears? What kind of cost am I looking at if that's the problem?

Your transmission shifts electronically controlled by the computer. If I hadda make an educated guess, I'd say possibly a bad shift solenoid or it's related wiring, a stuck/broken linkage on the valve body. or even a clogged passage inside the valve body. Without knowing what you're looking for or at, you'll just be taking a stab in the dark. Did someone mention a visit to a transmission shop?

you might get lucky and it's just a solenoid. Or, it's rebuild time. has the fluid turned brownish yet because you will eventually overheat it which is not a good thing to do. I too lost 3rd and OD

My rebuild was $700 with a shift kit and a stock rebuilt torque converter. But, that was giving them the tranny. You would need to pull it yourself.

Is your Service Engine Soon or Check Engine light on? If so, I would get a shop to pull the codes (unless you have a scan tool). That might shed some light on what to look for, or at least give you a place to start.

If there is a low line pressure situation, the 3-4 clutch pack is the first thing to go, and you would lose 3rd and OD, but that would not explain the jerk you felt when it took off...

Yup its gonna be your 2-3 band....same thing happend to mine last month.. changed every solonoind on that son of a gun and used about 50 bucks in tranny fluid before I got smart and pulled it out for the rebuild...if you know someone who rebuilds that'd be great! the kit for everything is only about 150 bucks... but shop charged me s smidge under 1400 for overhauling my 4L60E

Actually, the 4L60e doesn't have a 2-3 band; it has a 2-4 band, and yes that is a possible cause, but I believe that 2nd gear would be slipping if that were the case.

wellLLlLLLLl I just had mine redone 2 weeks ago and they said it was 2-3 band and my tranny worked great in 1, 2 and reverse...... so there is a 2-3 band or rebuilder lied to me about it!!
