is a 4l60e a 4l60e? meanin does it matter what car it comes out of. I c a bunch on craigslist for cheap. I need something now cuz my camaro is my daily driver. I don't wanna spend a couple hundred on to rebuild my tranny then spend 1k for something better.

do some reading on the second link. servo, reaction shell, and sun gear are a few of the weak points. if your planning on doing it yourself there are kits and instructions on that second site i think, also here,

if you dont have the tools i would advise getting a rebuilt and send in your core at the first link i posted

the guts of a 4L60E are the same from trans to trans but the bell is different. You can get it in 3 flavors Chevy SB, Corporate Bell (also known as small pattern or 60* V6 pattern) and the LS bell (for the LS series engines). Make sure you get the right one for your car and what have you. Some of the newer ones have a different plug but I cant remember what year they changed that over. Not sure about different tails, I think they are all the same but dont quote me on that one.

Depends on how you want to be driving the car, completely interactive or no? With a full manual valve body, the transmission will be in, and will stay in whatever gear you put it in. That also means that if you start off the line with it in 4th for instance, the trans starts in 4th. There is no automatic mode, so you'll be manually up and down shifting like you would be with a manual trans, but without a clutch.
