Transmission Help
My aunt has a 1993 Z28 Camaro and the transmission has recently burned up. We have a few TH350's laying around and we would like to replace the 700R-2 or 700R-4 with one of the TH350's. We were wandering if it would fit, or what we would have to do so it would fit. If anyone knows anything about it i would be very thankful if you would let me know. Thank You
Were they not running the 4L60E in '93? I was 99% sure they were. If so, your transmission is computer-controlled and going to a TH-350 is going to light your dash up like a Christmas tree. I would recommend against it. I'm not even sure ifthe bellhousing and torque-converterwill bolt-up to an LT1.
Here's the real problem, you want to take an overdrive, lockup tranny, and put in a 1:1 non-lockup. I imagine your freeway RPMs will go up by a factor of two or so. You MPG will take a huge hit. If you want to race it, go for it, but it's not a good idea for a grocery getter.
Just go get you an ATSG manual, new frictions, steels, and a seal-kit, about 5 cans of brake cleaner, and rebuild it. Even if you pop for a new torque-converter, you'll be out about $300 in parts. Just take your time, and do what the manual says. You'll have to be creativein dismantling the clutch packs, I use a c-clamp and an adapter I made by grindingopenings in one end ofa short piece of 2" steel pipe.My first rebuild is still on the road, along with about 7 since. So it can be done.
