I have posted a few times recently about my car that I recently bought. The previous owner said that my car has a chevy hi-torque 4speed variable shift automatic transmission, what the crap does this mean?

He used a lot of pretty words to describe the stock 4L60E. "High Torque" is pretty self explanatory, nothing too special there, the 4L60E is an electronically controlled 700R4. The electronically controlled is probably where he got the "variable shift" part of his speech.

It shifts hard and has pretty quick shifts. To shift, i have to let off the gas and when i get back on it shifts (depending on how high my rpms are). Is that what the stock 4 speed auto trans does?

I personally hate when someone says their transmission shifts hard and quick, because a.) GM did it right with these trannys. They cause considerably less power loss, and are already relatively aggressive. b.) Every time it shifts (when at WOT), it shifts essentially into 325 ft pounds of torque, which will hit HARD.
Sorry 'bout that little tiny rant, haha.
For me, if I go WOT, I either need to let it run all the way through the rpms, or let off the gas to have it shift. If you punch it upto say 4000 rpms, then just hang your foot, it'll stay there for a good amount of time. But if you mean you go WOT, it red lines and just keeps climbing until you let off the gas, then yes, you may have a problem.
A little more info will help us all.![Smile](https://camaroforums.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
