about 2 months ago my camaro broke down. finally started working on it and the problem was that the key broke on the crankshaft which caused it to got out of time. now my question is should i put both dots on the sprockets at 12 o'clock like the hanes manual says or should it be different sense i have diferent cams on the car?

ouch... Been a while since I have seen that. Yes there could be damage to the piston and the valve. If the piston has a little dent in it no biggy really but scrape or file off any sharp edges so you dont create hot spots and melt the piston. The valve may not have faired as well as a piston. Make sure the valve still seals nice when you are done.

It's the same as when you throw out your back (I've done it). It's not the feather that you bent over to pick up that did it, it was all the prior abuse that led up to that point.
