Question Tech unable to retrieve diagnostic codes - 95 Z28 LT1

Here's the scoop.

Originally blew a spark plug (I must have cross-threaded it when I changed them). Car sat for almost two years. In the meantime:

1. Had heads resurfaced and reinstalled
2. Reconnected all electrical connections
3. Reconnected all vacuum lines

Takes 5-7 times to start when cold. Originally ABS light and Engine Check light stayed on. Checked this forum and did batter disconnect as instructed. Lights off.

Engine cold start still the same. When starts and warms up, it will start immediately but idles fast. Mechanic said it is running a little bumpy as door has a slight shake. Also when driving it there thought I felt a miss or two. Still powerful and moves when asked to, however.

Mechanic has it now. Tried to hook up the OBDI as well as the OBDII but does not receive codes. No warning dash lights on. Car spending the night for now.

Any ideas out there on what the heck might be going on?? Can't imagine what this might cost! YIKES.

Thanks for any assistance.

I have an Actron 9150. It not only reads OBD2 but also reads codes and retrieves data on my OBD1 95 Z28

http://www.amazon.com/Actron-CP9150-...7214887&sr=8-1

I also have an ALDL cable www.aldlcable.com and use it to log data

If I need a tune, I use Solomon at www.lt1pcmtuning.com

its mainly because 95 is a crossover year it has an obd1 computer and an obd2 hook up the only thing that reads them that i hae found are the expensive readers the big bad ones mainly cause all the codes your going to pull up are from the obd1 era

If you are lucky enough to get the 95 with a 3800 in it you will be able to read OBDII codes. The LT1 didnt get that lucky until 96. The link that Craby posted works with my friend's 95 3.4L car.

I had the same reading issue. Had to go to an expensive shop to have it read.

All you need is an OBDI scanner and a OBDII adapter cable.

helooooooooooooooo

TIG is waving his arms

I posted a link for the Actron

it reads the 95 just fine. You don't just get codes, it also reads real-time data from the sensors.

Are you getting anything on the reader at all? Could also be the fuse to the connector. These obd connectors are fused, if you were tooling around the connections anywhere there is a chance you blew the fuse to the things associated with the connector... check the fuses - easy to do and cheapest fix its its the problem.

Anyone know the model of this OBD1 scanner? I have one, but it only has two prongs. Also have the "lucky" 1995 Z28.
