TDC indicator mark ?
What exactly am I looking for as a marker? Is it an arrow or some type mark on the harmonic balancer? I have turned the harmonic balancer over several times today but don't find any marking. I had the heads off and I turned the crank so the number one piston was all the way up in the cylinder but still could not locate a mark.

If you have an LT1, there is no marker, and if it is stock, no marker is needed. Why are you looking for one?

It is a 94 LT1 and reading the Haynes manual, it was saying the marker should be at the 12 o'clock position on the compression stroke for true TDC to adjust certain rockers and then rotate the crank one complete revolution to adjust the rest of them. I have found a couple things that puzzle me with that manual, like it is showing to put RTV around the water ports on the intake for a LT1. ???
but to answer your question, I just replaced the head gaskets and need to adjust the rockers tomorrow. |
there should be an arrow on the front of the balancer that is set to the up position when the motor is at tdc on #1 piston. it really dosent matter because the front balancer dosent do anything so it can be set in any position. and litterally can being there is no key to limit it. front of a lt1 is internally balanced and the rear is not. see the arrow or triangle in the picture

Thanks Camaro 69. I adjusted them today. Finished installing the intake, wiring, etc. Need to get the exhaust manifolds back on and it should be ready to fire over but I think I am going to double check the lash setting first since today was my first attempt. Also, I think I am going to turn the crank a few times with a socket and ratchet just to make sure everything seems good before putting the battery to it. I hate second guessing myself!!!
