I just finished reinstall my lt1 back into the car.95 z28. I went to fire it up i get a click, like i had a bad connection. Checked and double checked then checked again. I even bought a new battery today for it. So all of a sudden it decided to turn over but sounded rough. I removed a shim and now i havent gotten it to turn over since. I took thw starter off and had it checked. Its good.
I replaced the slave cylinder and i think i have it bleed out good. But if i dont will that cause the safty switch to not let it start. Any ideas from anyone plz. Ive been working on it since 9am this morning and it 6 pm now...lol

 

could be binding. did you get the gound wire that hooks under the motor mount.

 

Are you talking about the one that connects to the oil pan. Its a small wire.?

there should not be a ground hooked to the oil pan bolts. should be one to the front of the starter. heres the main ground under the motor mount.

Ummm. I dont remember that one. Im certain i dont have a ground on there. I wish i was the one that removed.the engine...im installing it blindly. Thanks im gonna go check that now.

 

Quick and easy test: clamp a jumper cable onto the body of the starter motor and the other end to the negative terminal on the battery. If the starter works, it's a ground issue.

 

I tried the jumper cable trick...still nothing. SO I did a old redneck trick. added a wire to each post and stuck on a push button, and started spins.(this is only tempory). Now for a new problem. it doesnt matter, with or without the shims, the starter doesnt touch the flywheel. I crawled under and watched it today and the starter kicks out and spins but thats all. If you take out the shim the starter gear shaves the bell housing. I removed the started and clutch assembly myself when I bought the car, so I know its the same stuff. So WTH am I missing. I have been working on street cars for 20+ yrs and this one is really kicking me down.Oh I took the starter to the rebuilder and he says its good??

 

sure you got the right starter?

 

Its a mini starter. I just pulled the numbers off and its the correct one.
