Default Speed Governor?

So I was traveling with my buddy to Montana and (I know its not smart but we were on an interstate and hadn’t seen a car for like 10 mins) he wanted to see what my car could do, I planned on taking to about 110 and backing it off. I stepped on the gas and brought it to about 105 and it started dieing or that’s what it felt like. It was like it was trying to shift but couldn’t (its an automatic) and I had no more power. My transmission is ok as far as I know, and the fluid level is were it should be, is that the governor or do the 94Z’s even have them? Thanks,

Jake

Mine's not an auto, but i got it up to 150 in 5th gear. When I shifted to sixth it started to die.
110 seems a little odd to me.
You said 'like it was trying to shift." Was it revving super high? Cuz that would mean it wasn't in overdrive.

My car hits 110 in 3rd.

Was the car ordered with Z rated tires? If it wasn't, it should be governed at 108 or so. Once the car hits 108, it will start to retard the timing so you can't make enough power to go faster...

I’m not sure what the car was ordered with, is there any way to tell? I just got new tires and their just H rated, not that it’s going to change whether or not it came with Z rated tires.
Also, Hampino, no it wasn’t revving really high, it was probably 3500 I’m not sure though I was mainly paying attention to the road... I’m pretty sure overdrive works; I’m getting good mileage on the freeway.

Thanks again for the replies

The cars that did not come with Z rated tires had speed limiters and the spedometer only went to 110. Cars sold with Z rated tires, had no speed limiter and the spedometer went to 150. The car in stock condition was capable to do 155 with a 6 speed and around 150 with the automatic.

I have a 94 z and mine also is governed at 105. if your car is equipped with the 4l60e tranny they make an computer that plugs directly into the back of the tranny that removes that speed limiter as well as lets you adjust the shift curve. and adjust for different tire sizes and gear ratio changes

Ok well thanks a lot guys. Anyone know how much it would cost to get that taken off, or do shops even take them off?
