True that. if anything, I got the optispark replacement procedure down to a science. I got it from oreillys, so I can take it back and say it solved one problem but created another. I appreciate your help!

The opty sends timing pulses to the PCM, the PCM triggers the ICM which then fires the coil, the spark from the coil goes back into the HV section of the opty and is then sent to the plugs. So, if a bad opty is not sending timing signals to the PCM the coil won't get fired. Do yourself a favor and replace the water pump also, because when the shaft seal on the pump wears out the it will leak on the opty, and you will be doing the job again.

Now its missing again under heavy acceleration. Oreilly's is ordering me a replacement under warranty so I'll go ahead and swap it out again. I did replace the water pump too.

I don't know if you changed the ignition wires. But if they are as old as the car, it is likely that they dried out and have cracks in the insulation. If water gets into the cracks it can reach the core and create shorts to ground. Also make sure they are routed as the factory did, to avoid burns, cuts, and other damage to the wires.
