Removing Fuel Rail

You may have a weak air pump or the cat is worn out or O2 sensor getting old. How many miles on you Z28 ? Egr could be bad but it probably wouldn't run good. Check all vac hoses and start with the visual possibilities first. Then get it scanned, the guys at AutoZone cannot scan an OBD1 PCM, which is what you have. You can buy a scanner or take it to a shop and let them diagnos it for you, then you can decide to let them repair it or you could do it yourself. Good luck

yah probly better to get a shop to do a diagnostic on it and find out whats up. sounds like u have muliiple sensors failing and the shot gun of parts path is exspencive.

Yeah, well i'll see what i'm going to do. I'm going to try to get it scan since i couldn't before and also try to get my cat tested. Im going to try to test the O2 sensors myself. Also other that i can read from the Manual.

Not to step on CNCman's toes, but it wouldn't be the AIR pump unless you just started the engine cold and drove the car into the testing facility. The pump injects on a cold engine, not a hot one. Which is another important factor, make sure your engine is up to running temperature, the hotter the better, before you get it tested. A colder engine can give higher readings.

No problem "Camaro 69 " you guys definately have me beat on experience and I respect you alot. I have only had a camaro for about 1 yr and a running for only 2 mo. I'm trying to learn here on this forum. The emission problems are a thorn in everybody's side who has had trouble with it, so I removed all of mine, but then it's not a leagle car anymore either. Maybe you or somebody could clear up that question about that pesty air pump and what it does because i've heard different views on it and i'm unsure it's purpose. Hope I have'nt offended anyone here.

thanks to all of you for the inputs. I will be doing some test on the O2 sensor and coolante sensor. Also one thing i have to ask. I borrow a scanner from work, it can read OBD1 and OBD2. I got the right connection a 12 pin connection. I hook up the scanner and NOTHING. the scanner doesn't start. Any ideas? I've read somewhere that not all scanners can do the job of scanning, but the scanner that i borrowed didn't even want to start. Could there be a problem with the end of the hook up in the car???

I've had a "connection not established" issue in an OBDII GM car before (not a Camaro). The problem was a blown cigarette lighter fuse. Not sure about the Camaro, but that's where some cars OBD port gets it's power. Check your fuses.

today i checked to make sure there was power at the connection with a Hypertech programmer. The programmer turns on. The scanner i tryed to use was working fine because the mechanic who lend it to me tryed it with a OBDII vehicle and it worked fine. Could it be that the scanner is just not competible? Today i also checked my O2 sensor. The sensor tested out fine. The voltage that i was reading was constantly moving.
