To remove EGR and Air pump...or not ?
I am about to install long tubes on the car...I have the headers picked out...but they are off road headers.... I was reading shbox.com ...thanks whammer ......they recommend not removing the EGR because it serves a purpose and can throw codes....What does everyone think ?

If your state has smog inspection, you best leave those things alone. The AIR pump is used to get the cats to light up faster, and besides lowering pollution it allows the cats to last a little longer. The EGR valve is used to lower NOx emission, but also allows the engine to handle more spark advance at part throttle which improves mileage. Removing either one will not make more power. The AIR pump only runs for a few minutes after the engine is started, and the EGR is fully closed at WOT.

gotta go with pete on this one. u can get either kind for your yr. lt headers are not legal in some states,,, well at least one, cali, so u should make sure on that. i figure i can show i have made an effort to keep it at stock as posable and keep both if they decide to change the law here.

I live in Tx, we don't have any emissions testing... I was more concerned about hurting the engine if I put off road headers on and deleted the EGR and air pump. Does removing that hurt the motor ? I don't want it to overheat or anything.

I put long tubes on my camaro and took out both the EGR and AIR system. I also had a programmer to delete the codes so it would not show. I mainly removed the AIR system because it did me no good since I do not have any cats and my tubes did not come with the EGR hookup. My camaro runs just fine without them.

youre not going to hurt anything with an emissions delete, I have no egr or 02s and an HP tune to clear away the christmas lights i had on my dash, and at that point i acctually picked up 2 RWHP =] lol

if you get an ORY then the worries about the cat are gone too. But, do 96's have qty 4 O2 sensors? If so, you would need to have the rear 2 tuned out
I wish I bought off road LTs because the EGR fitting kept getting in the way during the install. And, the EGR and AIR have been deleted since then. I should have planned that from the get go and gotten LTs without the 2 fittings
