Rebuilt bottom end

Rebuilt bottom end
so i was talking to my buddy today and he kept ranting on about how he was gonna do this and do that to his lt1 trans am. he kept saying he wants to bore it .060 over and like a 4" stroke crank and so on. i thought he was being ridiculous but then 2nd guessed and started thinking, so some questions popped up. 1) can an lt1 block be bored .060 without cutting it too close to the water ports? 2) i know 383 stroker kits are 3.75" stroke, so if it was 4", wouldnt that give clearance problems at bottom dead center and possibly hit the oil pan? and 3) (my own personal ?): does the block HAVE to be bored for a stroker kit? i thought a stroker kit was for the reason so you dont have to get it machined? any answers and/or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

.060 over is EXTREME for an LT1 and will definitely require a block filler to help strengthen the areas that have been weakened.
never seen a 4" crank for an LT1. my 396 has a 3.875 crank
yes the block needs to be machined a stroker crank
not sure why he thinks he needs to go .060 over and needs a 4" crank. power isn't made on the bottom end, its made on the top end with heads and cam and any power adders

you can boar to 120 over but have to have the cylinders sleeved or 80 and have the boar centered sonicly or sleeve it. stroke can go to 4.125, at least thats what ive read. i would not go more than 30 over and 3.75 stroke.

yeah thats what i told him, but he kept saying he wants the biggest displacement he can get out of a lt1. ive thought about bumping mine up to a 383 but i just want to see how it feels with just the right heads/cam package on my car. but thanks for letting me know, now i have proof that hes being ridiculous lol
