Question rack pinion fix or replace?

i was told i need a new rack pinion. the boots on mine have splits in them and leak, and it has play in it causeing my steering wheel to vibrate once i get to about 50 mph. iv been looking for a new one and unless its like a spohn or bmr one ( which i really dont want to pay the price of those), there all rebuilt ones. so my question is, is there another company that sells new ones for a good price or is my only other option to get a rebuilt one? well or replace whats wrong with mine but id have no idea what actually is going wrong with it.

There's nothing wrong with using a rebuilt. The old ones are basically used for the core, and the worn parts are replaced with new. The rack & pinion gears on yours are shot, which is why it's sloppy. For what you can get a rebuilt unit for, it wouldn't be worth the effort of rebuilding your own. Check out the ones on rockauto.com. An AC Delco unit is $114 plus shipping, minus our 5% discount.

Rockauto is one of our site sponsors. I've gotten a lot of stuff from them, and they have super fast delivery. https://camaroforums.com/forum/vendo...-2013-a-71983/

It is a pretty straight forward swap. Power steering lines, Knuckle at at the steering shaft, two main strap clamps. This would be a great time to do your outter tie rod ends. Once its done your going to have to get a front end alignment. Don't fall for the special deal on the better "four wheel" alignment our rear wheels can not be adjusted so whatever their cheapest alignment will be fine.

The only common mistake I can think of on the rack is cross threading the power steering hoses when going back together. You really want to be sure those are going in straight before you put a wrench on them.
