powdercoating alternator case
Ok its starting to get warm where I live and its giving me the motovation for some work on the car. I would like to have my alternator powdercoated, I have taken it apart as far as I can go without any questions. I am unsure how to take out the outside ring of coils on the back half of it. It seems to me that it would just pulle out seeing that theres only some nuts connected to the wires on the bottom. but other then that should It just come out. Is mine being a pain in the a$$ ?

Does your rear bearing have a retainer ring held on by three screws? Turn the case upside down (open end down) and slam it down on a block of wood. The bearing should pop out. While it's all apart, now would be a good time to repack the bearings too. With a tiny flathead screwdriver, you can gently work around the outer perimeter of the "seal" and pop it out. The seal may get slightly bent when you take it out, but you can straighten it back out. Then it just snaps back into the groove.
