P0300, failing OPTISPRAK?
Recently I had the famous LT1 oil leak fixed on my 97 Z28 that has 60,000 miles. It was infac, coming from the intake manifold seal and for now that problem seems to be rectified. However, I have new more serious problem. The mechanic told me he used a hose to clean off the engine bay after he was done working on it and I've began noticing the car starting to run unusually rough at idle. For about a week the roughness would be intermittent and that was really the only symptom. Than today after a 1 hour problem free drive the car took a couple tries to start up. Once it did it threw a P0300 multiple/random engine misfire. My question is, is this indicative of the distributor failing, or is something under the hood just in need of drying out? Any and all help is appreciated. What a way to start 2010.
And sorry i can't spell "OPTISPARK"

It is said that if the opti-spark get water in that baby, it will start to act funny. it will do misfires here and there. I myself took an opti-spark apart and saw that there was quite the moisture where the (chip, i cant remember whats called) picks up the information. Also water can corrode the points and the tips of the rotors. If you have never replaced it and got some money, throw in a new one. They are a bit expensive lol.

Did he use a garden hose or an air hose? Makes a difference.
The random misfire code is so vague, it can be caused by many different things. If the optispark is failing, it's common to get one of the "resolution pulse not found" error codes.

It was a garden hose, and I cleared the code and took it out for another drive and it ran flawless, the reason I'm starting to think it may be what craby said is because it doesn't have alot of the OPTISPARK symptoms. It runs awesome cold or hot, as long as its not idling. At high revs its runs completely normal. But I just took it out now and it idled smoothly again. My hope at this point is that its just taking a little time to dry because its been sub 30 degrees in NJ where the car is located. If something was fried than wouldn't it be a little more consistent?
