Default Overheats 3rd of the way

Car overheats a 3rd of the way, on the freeway it stays in the middle, soon as i slow down to around town traffic 3rd of the way. mechanic checked the fans, all good... coolant good... no mix of oil or water visible....

Mechanic thinks maybe radiator is clogged...
I wanted to see though if maybe I have a bad HEAD?
any way to test?
car has slight rough idle, but no check engine or misfire codes.

THANKS!

What about the T-stat? Try flushing the system to rid of possible build up and debris. Can also flush out the radiator.

yep could be the radiator is clogging or the thermostat is old and sticking, very rare to have a head gasket cause the engine to overheat. its the loss of coolant that causes that. if your not losing coolant then i would rule out headgasket, at least in the short term. if your insistent on checking the headgasket you can get a test kit and test the coolant or you can do a compression test and a pressure test on the cooling system. i would pick up a new thermostat and flush the motor, heater core and radiator. separately. as you flush the engine change the thermostat out. always, always, always bleed the air out of the cooling system. i am a firm believer in the hill method. park the car on an incline with the front on the up side. i have blead the air after a opti change while the front of the car was still on jack stands. re did it the next morning and let er down and drove it. came back and did a quick check for air and let it set to cool. once cool checked coolant level in the radiator and tried to get air (bleed) again from the bleeder screws. no air, done.

Fans kick on at 226 and 235. It doesn't sound like your car is overheating.

3rd of the way means what? mine rides at the first mark and if its hot out and im stoped it will climb to the half way (2nd) mark, maybe a little more before the fans come on.

I have a v8 and the fans kick on at about 210 and it hardly ever climbs higher then that. But, that was before I flashed the pcm with another stock tune so I'm not sure if it was previously adjusted or not on mine. I have a 180 t-stat too.
