Default overheating..........sort of....... 95 lt1

Well first off.....I am the pround owner of a camaro just bought a few days ago and very new to the forum concept so please bare with me......i noticed when my camaro idles temps will reach the 3 quarter mark very close the the red indicator letting you know its overheating......the minute my ac is turned on the temp stablizes at 170-210 mark which is ok.....i was always taught that the ac makes you car run hotter etc and to turn it off. And if you are overheating you should turn on the heater....???? if any one has or has had this problem please give me you input....!

I've noticed that a lot of the 94 95 camaros overheat a lot, due to the computers response to turning on the fan at 108 degrees celsius, which would be the 3rd line on your dash, most likely your car will never overheat unless you need to replace the thermostat, and/or flush out the radiator to make it run a little cooler. Remember all cars run a little hot when the AC is on. If your on the highway, turn the AC off let the engine relax, and feel the wind in your hair when your speeding that bad boy!

I owned a 1995 Z28 and I was having the same overheating problem when I was at an idle. The electric fan wasn't turning on properly so I attached a toggle switch straight to the fan, overriding the factory switch. Then when the car began to get hot I manually turned the fan on. This solved my problem, but you have to remember to turn the fan off once you start moving again.

my 96 was stumping me with this same issue. I found out that one fan turns on whenever you run the AC. You should never have a heating problem with the AC on ( I guess). When I would sit still with no AC the temp would reach 220/230 before the fan wound come on. I had to replace a relay here recently because the computer wouldn't tell the fan to turn on when it was running hot and it overheated on me. Running down the road with no AC, the temp is always 180.

Hope this helps

The fans need to go on with the AC. because the AC condenser has to be kept cool to avoid excessive pressure in the system which could blow things up.

ok folks i have had the same problem with mine, if you have no refrigerant in your ac condenser or at all than your low speed fans will not turn on at all unless you hit the 3/4 mark on the gauge, here is one of the best sites that i have ever found on the LT1 (95camaro used on all) you can find out how to fix/ research just about anything on your pre-98 Lt1. the guy that made the site is cool as hell to you can e-mail him if you need to.
