optispark fix

i need to swap out my bad optispark for a new how do i get everything lined up never messed with one before

Amazing what a google search will reveal. And I'm sure if you searched the forum you would of found about 100 threads on the subject as well.

the shaft on the opti is spined with one gear misssing and lines up with the cam spline with the missing gear. it only goes on one way. do not use the mounting bolts to pull the opti on, you should be able to push it and have it slide on. its also a good time to change the seals on the front cover.

replace the water pump while you are at it too. A failed water pump can kill an opti fast. Since it has to come off anyway why not, it is just piece of mind. Oh and get new if you can, remanned makes me nervous on these pumps.
