stock 97 Camaro z28 80,xxx on the motor
about a month ago I lost all oil pressure. upon further inspection I found out my oil pump failed and some of the gears on the oil pump drive gear had been ripped off. I don't know which happened first but anyway I replaced them both and all was fine. today I got on the parkway and opened her up (don't get to do that often). well oil gauge drops to 0 get it towed home and this time the mounting tab on the drive gear was broken in half. any ideas why this thing broke with less the 600 miles on it. I inspected the gears on the cam with a borescope while I turned the motor by hand and all looks good in there. also the wear pattern on the new drive gear was perfect.

 

faulty plastic. i have an aluminum one from herron performance on mine. website is shut down so facebook is the only way to get stuff from them.
