Oil Dripping Out Exhaust....
hey guys. i'm new to the forum and new to LT1's. Last week i picked up a 96 Z28. The guy i bought it from said he was driving one day and it just blew up and smoke was going everywhere. White smoke billows out the tail pipes so its obvious that its got a bad head gasket...and there is coolant in the oil. But today i went to get it in the my garage and all the sudden oil started draining from the little hole in the muffler.....
I know head gaskets are kinda a common thing for an LT1 but i was curious if anyone else had oil come out of their exhaust before? I hope on getting everything apart by this weekend but figured i ask ya'll what kinda damage i'm looking at...haha.
BTW it has 98000 miles on it...
Thanks!

OH chi mama/ Valve seals...wait are you sure it is oil and not coolant that is very dark with carbon? You would b looking at catastrophic failure if you had a noticeable amount of oil coming out of the exhaust. I wish I was there to take the head off with you i love a good breakage investigation.

Ok you have oil passages that go throught the block to the head...this is a long shot but if you blew the head gasket in moumental fashion you could have the oil leaking ito the cylinder and then blowing out the exhaust valves on the exhaust stroke. THat would be something nice to see. What kinda oil pressure is the guage showing?
So in my opinion.-valve seals-gasket around oil passages back to cylinder-cracked the head(super unlikely)

lol.....
yeah i guess i flipped out when i saw something draining from the muffler...haha. it was black so i assuming it was oil. it was very watery though....very good point. it could just be water mixed with the carbon....i will check again when i get home....either way that thing is jacked up....lol

take the cap off and have a look inside. if its crudy or rusty or theres any water at all in it, replace it. if not it and it looks good leave it. 96 has the vent so the gases caused from the spark are sucked out and they have a different mount up that helps to keep water out. seal the dizzy cap with some high temp blue to get a good seal. hope its just head gaskets. are u planning on any build up for the motor?
