Ok guys, here is the deal. A guy that I work with has a 93 Z28 6 speed all original witn NO mods whatsoever. Interior is in great shape.Just tipical GM clear coat flaking off. The car has had synthetic in it for as long as he has had it, which was from the dealer lot. We were talking the other day when we got to work and I asked him if he wanted to trade for my 96 V6. We both got a laugh out of it. Are there any downfalls to it being an OBD1 vs OBD2 car? Or being a speed density vs a mass airflow metered engine?I do live in CA so I do still have to deal with smog checks every two years. I have driven the car, very solid, rattles less than my 96. He is only asking $1800 for it, so I cannot pass it up. Just wanted a heads up in what I should expect.
I have either had cars with full tunnable electronics or they have been carberated, never the inbetween.
Thanks
Marc

There isn't really any "downfall" per se about that MAP instead of the MAF. The '93's typically don't make as much power as the late LT1 cars do due to the MAP, and they're harder to tune, but that's the real big difference. As it is with most first years for a new engine/body style it has it's quirks. The fact the clear coat is peeling off may be a sighn that it wasn't in the best of care though, my clear coat is fine! If it's only $1800 that's pretty hard to pass up though, as long as it's in good condition and it's running fine I don't see why not!

For the amount of money you'll spend to do the swap you can probably find someone who can do the chip for you. There are plenty of 93's making serious horse power. Like everything else it take $$$.

Like LT1 runner said, it's probably not worth your time or money. \\; The stock tune on the MEMCAL chip is pretty good, and you really don't need to worry too much about the tune unless you're looking at doing some new internals (heads/cam etc.), so I wouldn't worry too much about it. \\; If you really want to do the swap the best option would probably be to find a wrecked 94-95 (OBDII started in 96, so it has extra sensors that you don't need) and swap out what you need.
