As far as when you should do this, my advise; if the tie rod ends are bad replace them before you drive the car again. I had a tie rod end break on a dodge car I had and it caused a pretty bad accident. Fortunantly no one was hurt.

not there is no sound well there is, but it comes from one of the back tires, they also quoted me for brakes on the back and one rotor, i think is the one making the noise. Oh and yeah the car is pulling to 1 side its pulling to the left side. So i should get to ASAP??
Were they quoting you for just the brake pads? Or calipers. Usually a sticking caliper would cause the car to drag to one side when brakes are applied.

Well you usually replace them in pairs or one side will have more stopping power than one side.

Yep, that is the outter tie rod end. In the picture, take the cotter pin out at the top (the one going through the nut). Take the castle nut off (the one at the top holding the tie rod in) You can hit it with a hammer to take it out since you are not going to reuse it. The proper way would be to use a pickle fork.

Should is the optimum word. If you are short on cash you can replace onr at a time.
