in need of some knowledge
so i have been doing research on this all day today and most of last nite, and i would like some outside input on this. What optispark unit are you using or what would you recommend. so far everyone ive talked to has told me msd or an ac delco unit, i just want to know if you guys have any recommendations or comments about some opti's, cuz im sick of replacing these reman units and want something that will last more than a couple of months. thanks Justin

had a gm performance opti in the first 93 and it was working fine when i got rid of it a 100k miles later. have the msd in this one and it seems to be working fine. only a couple thousand miles on it.

Keep your eyes open on ebay or craigslist.
I just scored a brand new MSD opti for my Vette for $290 delivered.
I probably won't find another smokin' deal like that again for a while.

On ebay. Someone bought one, and never used it. It's still new and all there.
Mine is the early style (1992-94.5), and the nice thing about the MSD is it comes with the vent hose kit. It's flow-through vented like the newer style opti is. The old one just has open vent holes on the bottom. No matter which opti you go with, it would be a very good idea to update it to be fully vented like the new style. The lack of "positive" venting in the early style opti, and the inability to remove internal moisture, is what made it so problematic. That also contributed to giving the opti a bad name.
