need new rear end, help. (1996 Z28, 6-speed)
hey, my stock 3.23's are chewed up and it's time to do something about it. i want to rebuild my rear end to a 3.73 (or maby i don't, you tell me). what do i need to do to make this happen? do i need a new carrier (like some are saying in other posts)? please help! by the way, i have a 1996 Z28 camaro w/ a 6-speed T56 (stock).

u would be better off to pick up a whole rearend if u can find one. 342 or 373s. if u want to change the gears get some books and do the research. alot depends on what u use the car for. if u want a little more pull but dont want to lose mpg then go with 342 or 373, if u dont do alot of freeway driving at 75 and dont mind losing your mpg then go with the 411 like wham says. u will have neck snapping torque.

Newbie here, just wondering what your rear end does that tells you it's all chewed up cause my rear end makes some weird noises too especially when I'm backing outta the parking.
I heard 4:11 really kills your gas mileage so think about that before you go for it, and also if I were you I'd get something more durable than that 10 bolt, maybe a 12 bolt or 8 bolt in which case yeah you'd need a new housing.

help.
so, if i were to look for new gears, what would i search under (parts wise) in like a site suck as jegs or summit racing? what is the technical term for gears? also, do i need to do anything whatsoever to my car or just simply replace these "gears?" thanks.

ring and pinion. if u toasted the one u have and want to reuse it would be a good idea to replace the bearings and races. i would think the axle bearings would be good but u would want to look at them. setting the gears is a precise job and is easy to mess up, u need to get them just right. thing is u dont know if u got it right most times till its to late. thats y i was saying do lots of research.
