Default Need hel or advice

Got a 94 Camaro Z28 has new crate motor and trans with around 12k miles on it. 3weeks ago it started to act up. Wanted to die with no warning sometimes it would be a minute or so after starting and sometimes its a few hours or sometimes a couple days it would do it. replaced icm, coil, plugs, plug wires, checked all grounds, checked alternator and everything. Im thinking that it could be the distributor going bad. My buddy had same problem but his didnt happen as often when his distributor was bad and replaced it and it fixed it right up. Anybody ever had similar problems or thing si should check and look for before i take the time to change the optispark distributor. ANy advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have enough experience on the LT1 yet but, since your description states the problem is intermittent, the first thing I would do is go around and check all connectors of the sensors I could. Disconnect/re-connect them. Be sure to do that to the temp sensor on the waterpump.

How would you go about checking the sensors? arent they all just plug type. Im new to teh hevy game been mustang fan sinc ei started driving and these lt1 seem pretty complicated with the opti spark and what not. The fella im getting it from says he 100% its the distributor but im just asking for mor einfo incase that doesnt fix it

If it is the distributer, which it well could be, you'll have fun replacing it, it'sbehind the water pump.

The only sensors that would cause it to act like that is the crank position sensor, throttle position sensor or IAT.Do you have any codes stored or is the Engine Light on ?It could be the distributor, the optispark goes out in different ways so its hard to really pinpoint it, but if it cranks but doesnt start its a high possibility that it is the optispark.

I agree with Alih, you should check out the sticky at the top of this section, it gives some general symptoms of an opti going bad and you can keep your eye out for more symptoms. Usually when something is that intermittant it's a connection or an opti issue.
