my 95 z
Ok.. I have a question for all of you.. I think that this can go in this category, but I was not sure.. Anyway.. I just bought a 1995 White Z/28. The car had a blown engine and the guy had a new one put in. The new engine is from a newer Trans Am. It is said to have the Aluminum Heads and more horsepower than the regular 1995 Engine. It has a Shift Kit, Auto Trannie.. Shifts like an animal. It has a Flowmaster Catback, Ram Air Cold Air Intake and a Hypertech Programmer with 3.42 Gears.. I was wondering .. Give or take.. A rough Guesstimate on Rear Wheel Horses and what she could be running the the 1/4... Any help would be grateful.

RE: my 95 z
In stock conditions both engines have the same power, and both engines came with aluminum heads. Ram air intake requires a SS hood for it to work and is no better than a regular cold air intake, unless you are cruisong at over 100 MPH. In my experience the Hypertech provides little gain, maybe a tenth is the 1/4 mile. The shift kit is OK if you like to get beaten up while you drive and is rough on the rest of the running gear. The catback is a good thing and worth around 15-20 HP. Assuming the CAI works, it may give another 15 HP. The 3.42 gears do not add power but will launch the car a liitle better. My SWAG would br around 250 RWHP, 1/4 mile in low 13s ET @ 103 MPH trap speed.

The new engine is from a 99 trans am.. Dunno if that means anything.. a ws6 engine, i believe. Also.. The car does have an SS hood to go with the ram air intake. Thank you for the info guys.. Anything I can do to the car to get her into the high 12's? Headers, Y pipe?
