Default MAF loose

i saw somewhere on here that someone cleaned their MAF and it helped increase gas mileage. and i was interested because i have noticed that my mpg has gone down drastically. i went to go check out my MAF and noticed that it had no connection to the K&N filter tube at all. it was sitting more around the ring itself, than actually wrapping around it. could this be a problem with my mpg? im glad i looked tonight cause that could have caused a huge problem because that means that the air filter was not working at all, and also restricting air because of the gap.

im sure it had your computer going nuts. yes it could have been the problem. air coming from the connection between the air filter and the maf would suck in warm air and defeat the gains from having a cai. it would also alow dirt and dust to get in there and contaminate the maf. u should be able to get maf cleaner at the parts store. call and see.
