Default LT4 Hot Cam emmison question

the other day my grandfather got into a argument of swapping the stock lt1 cam in my 97 z to the hot cam of th lt4 will make it not pass the emission testing. i think it will still pas since its a stock gm cam that came in factory cars. it there anything that would cause the car not to pass testing buy swapping cams? we are both bull headed in what we think so we need some input on the problem.

It will clear emissions, the LT4 HC is pretty mild. However, the Hot Cam isn't the factory cam that came with LT4's. It's a slight upgrade over the stock LT4.

If you're going to do a LT4 HC buy the kit. It's not really worth it if you buy the parts individually performance wise. It's what I'm going with.

do i have to replace the valve springs and rockers with the hot cam because my motor is a good runner. will the stock lt1 do ok with just doing a cam and lifters swap?

i want the little rougher idle but keeping my car closer to stock since its an anniverary edition. basically i want to do that same thing as i did with my 68. its a factory 275hp 327 car but i put the L79 350 cam in it. rougher idle but still a good driving cam.

the springs are sized for the motor. they may or may not bind and do damage. i would change springs and retainers.

i was just curious because i was looking at cost but its better to spend a little more now and make it right then blow the motor up and have to spend even more money down the road

The HC kit comes with everything you'd need and is good for 330-350 at the wheels on stock heads w/full bolt-ons + tune on an M6 car. There are much more aggressive cams out there, but the great thing about the HC is that you don't have to rev your stock 2-bolt block above 6,000 rpm. It's decent power at a relatively cheap price. Hotcamming without the kit isn't worth the price.

Don't order from Summit... it's $80 cheaper at JEGS.
GM Performance 12480002 GM Performance Small-Block V8 Camshaft Kit

Cam, springs, rockers, caps, keys, and shims for $570. The stock lifters are rock solid so I wouldn't bother.
