it is an lt1 with a different cam, intake, and heads.they made about 330hp and were put into the 96 corvette GS as well as a few 97 SS's and possibly a few firehawks.

The kits are a waste of money, I've heard. You can get intake, heads, and a better (more aggresive) cam for less. I think.

Actually any 1996 Corvette with a 6 speed came with the LT4, not just the Grand Sport. That being said, there's actually more than just the heads, cam and intake, those are just the major components. It also had a better crank, better rings, different pistons, 1.6:1 roller rockers, heavier timing chain etc. The heads and cam are the major power components, but all the other stuff allowed them to push the redline above 6000 rpm.

Nope, all the GS had 6-speeds, and thus came with the LT4, but any 96 with a 6 speed has an LT4.

not true, LT4 was only a option. only standard on the GS. the ZF6 was also a option from 89 on.

No, although RPO code LT4 was obvioulsy the LT4 engine, RPO LT4 requires MN6 (manual 6 speed), and RPO MN6 requires LT4 and ML9 (Transmission, Manual 6 speed, ZF, 95mm, 2.68 1st, Overdrive). Consequently RPO ML9 requires LT4.

Cliff's Notes version: all 1996 Corvettes with an 6-speed manual had an LT4...
