Default LT1 SS vs Z28

i know there is no difference in performance in the SS and Z28 in the LS1 cars. but everything i have read and from my personal experiance , the LT1 SS cars are fater than the Z28 cars. i have ran a couple at the track (auto and manual) and have yet to have a stock LT1 Z out run me. the only Z i have had beat me was 01 Z with exhaust , headers , a lid, and custom tune. he got me, but only by about 1 1/2 car lengths. my car is 100% stock with 36,000 mile on it now. i run thevery close to the numbers a bone stock LS1 SS's at our local 1/8th track runs i have gotten 8.8's where they run 8.7-8.9's i think on a good night i could squeeze a 8.6 or 8.7out of my car. i haven't been able to run it in the 1/4 yet , but i'm sure they would put some space between me in the 1/4. my car seams alot stronger in the first 60-80 ft than the LS1 cars , then they come alive and run me down on the high end. so.....are the LT1 SS cars actually faster than the LT1 Z28 cars and the LS1 SS and Z28 run the same? or are they all suposed to run the same numbers? or do i have a factory freak? because i have found several things about my car that are odd.... no power windows, no RKE , and has all synthetic fluids and my car runs about 180 degrees all the time never gets over that and it's never had anything but oil changes and airfilters.

On the LT1, the SS was faster, mostly due to the new intake system that was much less restrictive, and a less restrictive exhaust. That being said, you'll really only be faster than a stock Z28, and only in the high end where the intake and exhaust need to flow better to be able to make power. If you ran a Z28 with a new intake and cat back, it'd be a close race, if you ran a Z28 with intake and a good header back exhaust, you'd probably get taken.

From all that I've read, the differences between the two were very marginal. Mostly marketing hype. Who would buy the SS if it wasn't 'faster' than the Z28?? I'll agree with 95slvrZ28 you probably only have an advantage over the Z at high rpms. Think about the intake on the SS...it has to make two very sharp turns into the intake as well as becoming heat soaked over the intake and engine.

have you seen the intake system on the regular Z? the intake system on the SS has no choice but to flow better. also my car has the optional exhaust , stainless 3" with a Superflow muffler, i know it sounds 100% better than a stock Z and personally i like the sound better than a flowmaster.

Is there a slim chance that you have one of the very rare LT4 cars? They will keep up with LS1's,but only a handfull were ever made

i don't have a LT4 car , but i am wanting to do the LT4 conversion (with AFR heads and a Comps. Cam). and from what i have read only 50 LT4 cars were built and they were all 30th Annv. cars. also my intake is regular cast aluminum not red in color. i actually ran a LT1 Formula less than 2 hrs ago @ the track and beat him by .4 seconds (1/8th) . i ran a (best so far) 8.72 and he ran a 9.17 and we left the line pretty close , but after the 60ft mark i started pulling.

There are probably a lot of little things you can do at the track to make the car faster, like adding a little more air to the front tires and doing some burn outs on the street to insure that you get a full tirepattern onto the road. Did you try taking off the air cleaner or using a more efficient one? Or bumping the timing?Diconnecting the power steering at the track is worth a tenth.
