the cps is a testing unit. its used by the computer to test the opti it to make sure it s firing right. computer will use it if the cam sensor is throwing bad info or if the system is on limp mode.

What's a cam sensor? Is that the optical wheel in the distributor? I know the CPS will throw the code for Random Misfires Detected.

I just got done with the optispark and TDC check. They are in alignment. The cam pin is in the correct spot for cylinder 1 TDC as well. I'm going by the animation on SHBOX.com. So, I don't see the need to pull of the timing cover to inspect the chain itself. I'm going to put my old distributor and see if that runs any better. If it does, then I'll need to get a new optispark.

Is the MSD the bees knees, or what? With a $500 price tag on it, it must be good, right? Or should I try that LS1 coil conversion thing I've heard about? How much does that finally end up costing?

yah cam sensor is in the opti. when i can afford it i will be going with a fast system for the computer and am still debating the coil on cylinder switch. by the way the gm competition opti is one of the best on the market so u have a good brand name. the msd has the vent conversion with it and that draws allot of people to it, u can do a conversion yourself.

I just took a look at the LTCC and I dont' think that's for me. As much time as I have spent on this I don't want to go around fabricating a bunch of brackets and wires. I have an LS1 in my garage that's not doing much right now, so I could convert fairly cheaply, but I just want this thing to run and now!

Putting in the old opti made not a difference. It doesn't surprise me. There was a reason I bought a new one.

Well, I finally got my replacement opti and put it and VOILA! The god damn thing fires right up. What a bunch of piddly poo!! Just on this car I have had a set of injectors, rocker arms, and now a distributor all fail on install. WTF happened to quality control?!

Thanks man! I don't get to enjoy it quite yet. The rocker arms are noisy as hell. I'll have to adjust them for sure. I need to go through the entire interior as well, damn leaky convertibles. At this pace, it might be ready by summer...
