Default LT1 Engine rebuild or replace??

I have a 96 LT1 that requires a complete rebuild really. So IF i do a complete rebuild i am going to upgrade the cam and get the heads ported and polished probably. But i am just wondering would it be easier/cheaper to buy say a 383 stroker and install it. Just trying to get some advice.

also if you guys have any ideas of decent places to purchase a complete overhaul kit or crate engines.

thanks

looking at around 3 k to have the block stroked and set up right at a shop. then you gota have the heads done and get your cam, lifters, etc. you can usually get a rebuilt motor for about the same as what it costs for you to rebuid the motor. cost goes up if you have a shop rebuild it.if you want to do it there are things that are best left to the machine shop like cleaning and checking the block and crank. you can get a gasket kit but the bearings rings and maybe the pistons will have to be ordered when you know what size is needed. summit and jegs have gasket kits. have a look at elleotts portworks and see what hes got. very nice guy and one of the best when it comes to lt1 heads, cam,,, and motor as far as that goes.
