my fans will only run when i have my ac turned on . I replaced the sensor on the water pump thinking that was the problem . while i was doing this i noticed with out the wire to the sensor pluged in the fans were working fine . going thur there normal cycle . But the car will not run right with out the sensor being hooked up.

I had this problem I kept blowing a fuse which would kick on my fans at an extremely low temp that didnt need to happen. You might want to check the air pump motor, thats what happened with mine, the motor was completely shot. Also check your fuses, there was also a recall (well not exactly, just a well known problem) the original wires to the air pump need to be a bigger gauge, Im not sure what size I will have to check the report I have on them, but I will get back to you. Hope this helps!

The fans are controlled by the PCM using the input from the coolant temp sensor. The fact that they work when the AC is on indicates that the fan motors and fan wiring are OK. The fact that the fans turned on when you disconnected the temp sensor is normal. By disconnecting the sensor the PCM went into the limp home mode and turned on the fans, just in case they were needed. The engine has to get pretty warm before the fans kick in
