Automatic rebuild is a lot more meticulous then engine rebuild. In a dealship with 20 trained techs it is not surprising to find one or two that do GM auto trans rebuilds but most of the 20 would not think twice about installing a crank in any make car.

If you have an in with someone that rebuilds a tranny then buying a car with tranny issues makes a LOT of sense. Most people would be looking at a $2500 repair if you just drop off the car and say fix it at a tranny shop. Just make sure you get the car at the"it needs tranny work" price.

"tranny work price" i'll keep that in mind greatly! I got a deal down to $2700 And where im at which is the upper peninsula of Michigan, that's actually a deal, especially with people selling the same thing for like 5-6 grand for a similar condition. I'll probably end up getting it, since i do have a relative who does tranny rebuilds for a living. Just gotta be a little bit of a, well.. kiss a$$ haha!

Yes, you must be ready for that. I rebuild60e's. I'm in Northern nj near nyc.
If you need help via advice or actually need hands on help.
I rebuilt mine with a lot of upgrades for 650ish all in parts.
Taking the 4l60e out is kind of a pain, with one person working each side it would go out in like, 2 minutes

2 minutes! Took me a weekend by myself in my garage on jack stands. Oh the benefits of a lift, additional help, and experience...
