Default LT to LS

Does anyone know anyone around Lansing MI, that does coustom engine installs? I have a 94 Z28 that of course has the LT1, but I would like to go to an LS engine. I dont have the know how to completely change over from LT to LS. I also need to change the trans over from 4 speed auto to 6 speed on the floor.
Thanks Andrew

by the looks of it, the cost would be about $4500 and then minus what you get when you sell your car

The process to switch the motor over is pretty straight forward but it is kind of a pain with the OBD1 computer system your current LT1 has. I do think someone makes a harness for the conversion. To swap a 96-97 to a LS1 is pretty simple and very common. The only way it would be worth it was if you already had access to a very nice low miles LS1 and your current LT1 is trashed and you did the labor yourself.

The conversion to the 6 speed is a little less clean then the motor swap. Now you are talking cutting up the floor pan, switching consoles, installing pedals. You are going to have to search Hot Rod shops because most garages will not mess with a project like this. As torque tried to point out you would be much better off money wise selling your Lt1 and just buying a LS1/6 speed. My guess would be you are looking at 25-28 hours labor at $80-$110 per hour. Figure you’re going to pay $3,000-3500 for all the donor parts you are going to need. That will get you a used motor and trans with 85K on it. Add in another $1000 for clutch and wear items you would not want to install used and you could easily hit $7000. When you are done you will have a Franken car worth 4K tops.
