Default Looking for a Good Air Intake system

Hey All,
Purchased a 1996 z about a month and looking to make a couple improvements. Have a full borla catback exhaust
already but still has the stock intake. I've been looking for a good intake for my car but all I can find
is the plastic K & N one and i would prefer an aluminum intake.

Is the plastic K&N really the best one out there and if not could anyone shoot me a link to a better,
preferably aluminum system, thank you
Joe

Go for K&N or Moroso, which ever you can find cheaper. If you're worried about the quality of the plastic, it's some good stuff, you're not breaking it any time soon. If you want the aluminum for visual appearance you can get a chrome intake elbow (which is much more obvious than the intake anyway), but they don't really make good cold air setups out of metal (key word: good). Another thing to consider: the plastic is going to do better with heat soak because plastic is a better insulator than metal.

SLP makes a good cold air intake, I ran one for several years. Comes with 2 K&N conicle filters. Around 200 I think it was when I bought it. It's an aluminum piece.

the dual pipe thing.... looks neat but i bet it introduces unnecessary turbulance. and slp has always been a little overpriced for the quality you get. i have their lid, but if i had to go back there wouldnt be an slp part on my car

I was very pleased with the SLP CIA, I only sold it because I got the SS hood and went ram air, yet another SLP part. I really don't see how you can judge it by it's looks, and SLP for that matter because you have their lid. And as far as turbulance goes, I would think that it's as much as the moroso or K&N, going off the fact that I have seen all of them in person and they are all pretty straight, no big wacky surfaces to cause it.

i'd buy only a few SLP things that came stock on my car...i wouldn't spend my money on aftermarket parts from them. but to each their own. i have heard that SLP, K&N and moroso are all good intakes...if i had to do it i'd pick k&n or moroso

well there are all different kinds of brands i used a Injen and it seemed to work well and fair priced. there are two types, both replace your stock air box. but a true cold air intake will make its way down to almost underneath your car were it can draw cold air as opposed to the other type that just replaces the stock air box and retain the same mounting position. those are a waist of money because they just draw the hot air from your engine compartment.with the true cold air intake you need to make sure you either remove it when it rain or snows or make sure that is located in a water free spot because you don't want water to get in it although some brands are water proof or use a little bit of oil on the filter. also i formed a scoop underneath the bumper where the filter is to catch the air.
