Default looking for a camaro?

Well I'am brand new to this site and dont know much about camaros my last car was a supercharged mustang but I have always liked camaros, but now I'm looking around for a commute a car but I dont really want a econo box so thats why I'm looking at a LT1 camaro. My question for everybody is are these cars reliable? I have heard with a 6speed they can get up to 28-30mpg is this true(this car will be strictly driven on the highway)? Is there a certian year that I should look for or look out for? Really I'm just looking for all the info you guys have, Thanks.

i know 2 people with LT1's with well over 200K on the clock, with no re-build daily drivers.

just make sure it idles good, and you dont see alot of oil or gunk under the oilpan/transpan

the LT1 intake manifolds sometimes leak a small amount of oil at high mileage in the rear, but thats an easy fix, just new intake manifold gaskets

and make sure you dont get the distributor (optispark) wet as well, it can cause annoying missfires, and isnt the easyest part to get to when replacing.

body panels are a bit different and so is the interior, and that's it. My car idles at about 600 when it's in gear and warm, but I have an auto. For a manual, I'd say around 700-800 maybe(don't quote me on that...)

I'm pretty sure the Ram Air started in 1996, so it may be an after market hood. If you're looking for something with the LT1, make sure it's a Firebird Formula, and not just the Firebird.

Yeah this one is a formula. Is it true these engines were underated, I saw a dyno of a stock LT1 273rwhp and 303rwtq? Also this car has the 6 speed is this the same T-56 used in the 03-04 cobras, vipers, and corvettes?
