Default Interchangeble PCM's?

I have a '95 z28. I have a chance to pick up a PCM to have as a spare at a really good price. The guy tells me that the one he has will work for '93-'95 lt1's. I don't know what year the car was that this computer came out of, but my understanding is that there is an interchangeability between '94-'95 PCM's, but not between '93 and the later cars as the '93 is a speed density setup and has chips and therefore is not programmed by flashing the PCM. Can somebody please clear this up for me? Thanks!

You need the mass air pcm for only 94-95, best if its out of an a4 too. You can change that though with tuning software. But 93 is a no go.

Default Thanks

Thanks, it's out of a '94, but the guy says he reflashed it with a diablo tuner. The mods he had on his car were similar to mine- intake and exhaust only, but he had a '94. I think I will just get a cable, hook it up to my laptop and get some help reflashing my PCM from Solomon at LT1PCM. I probably don't need to have an extra one after all.

Intake and exhaust should be fine with the stock tune...i dont see much benefit from reflashing...what software do u use? If you interupt the power supply while tuning you will need another one.

chevy mixed the ecm/ecu's in some yrs. 93s are not the same as any other camaro. 94 and 95 are supposed to be interchangable but i think some of the late 95s have a 96 setup. the ecm for your yr are still available and are not that costly so having an extra is probly not a need to do kind of thing.

Default Software and Power Isssues

I have Tunercat, and also, Freescan. Yes, the car does run pretty good and averages 22 mpg at 68 on cruise (A4). The engine runs well and all the shifts are firm, especially under heavy throttle. But, I'd like to just fine tune it a bit and see if I can up the MPG and wring a little more power out of the engine. I've decided to use Solomon at LT1PCM to get this done. I know these changes aren't going to be earth shattering, but they may improve mileage and bring another 10-15 hp. Additionally, I use an inverter in the car while datalogging so I don't have to rely on the laptop's battery for power (lame battery only lasts 15-20 minutes). And also, I will have the laptop plugged in to house A.C. when reflashing so as not to lose power when reflashing and possibly damage the PCM.

u should be able to get the mpg up in the 27 range if its mostly stock. im still trying to figure my problem out, stuck at 21mpg. got it up to 25 for a week or so when i changed the 02 sensors and the brake rotors and pads but it went right back to were it was. i think the brakes are draging bad. calipers may be sticking and they are lookin old and rusty so when money is around i will be doin that. when i get it dinoed that will tell me more. just gotta find the time to make the drive. some setbacks to livin in the boondocks.
