i have an intermittient tap tap tap sound under the hood, i dont think its anything major cuz i know cars good enough that this tapping noise is not loud enough to be something major at least i dont think it is and its coming from the valve cover? do you think it could be a stuck lifter and if so will it cause alot of damage? If i were to take the valve cover off what woud i look for to see if it is stuck and what could i do to fix this??? if you can help thanks

 

yeah sounds like its a stuck lifter, well you could easily tell because it wouldnt be moving at all, and if its a stuck lifter id repair it asap because you can cause some damage driving it like that

 

have you checked the kebouse?

 

well i pulled the right valve cover off and i did not see any metal shavings and changed the oil and did not see any metal shavings at all. i talk to a freind of mine that has a lt1 firebird and he siad that the noise is comon and it is the lifters hitting the valve covers liightly and it is common has anyone herd of that???
