one of friends told me that by splicing some of the wires on the MAF sensor you can get some extra power. i was wondering if anybody knew anyhting about it. because he wasnt sure what wires you play with to get it and i was just curious

Never really heard of it...Some of those things that "sound too good to be true" usually are, consider that. If anything the splicing of wires is only going to trick the PCM into thinking it needs to inject more fuel, so you'll get a little more power in the top end, but you'll be running too rich all around. Don't mess with the MAF, it'll be better for you in the long run.

Could be he's talking about one of those cheap-o "chips" they sell on fleabay. It's a resistor that splices into your sensor's wiring to fool the PCM into thinking the air temp is cooler than it really is, and the result is to make the engine run richer (the computerized version of running an old style choke). As mentioned, it's an all around bad idea, and constantly running too rich can eventually trash your cat too.

The funny thing about those so called "chips" is that they can only fool the PCM for a while. The PCM looks at the MAF and compares it to the O2 sensor and re-calibrates the A/F tables to bring all back to normal. So you go through all the trouble of installing the "chip" and after the engine has been started several times you are back where you started from. Except that now the engine is not running as good as it used to, becase due to the "chip"the MAF output is no longer tracking correctly. LOL
