Default Hey need some advice on helping me figure out if I actually have a cam????

Hey guys, I just recently purchased a 95 Z28 and its going to be my oride and joy project! It has NOTHING wrong with it and I got it for 2300!!!!!! (WHA????) Anyway here is a list of the mods that I know it has:
It has Edelbrock short-tube headers with a Flowmaster Exhaust but not dual only single
MSD Ignition (Everything in there is MSD)
K&N FIPK
Electric Waterpump
Eibach lowering springs and adjustable shocks
Drilled rotors
Energy Suspension Bushings
Hotchkis Performance Ball-joints

OK...... so now here are the things I am not sure of:
I heard somewhere (doesn't make it true) that on these engines if you install a cam that your check engine light will be on. Is this true? If so mine is not on, but my check gauges thing is on.
Anyway the guy I bought it from said it has a Comp Cam. Now I don't know what kind of cam it is (Mild or Aggressive). I am assuming its mild (if it even has a cam) because it doesn't have that lopey rumble. I does have a very very slight lope and the stop light. I almost cant even say if it is a lope. There are stickers everywhere under the hood showing what is installed and most have part numbers except for the Comp Cams sticker and the JE Pistons sticker. So I guess I was wondering how to tell if i do have a cam (because if I don't I want to get one) and also wondering how to tell if my pistons are aftermarket JE Pistons or whatever. I mean this thing does haul ***** but still I think most Camaro's would anyway with Headers, exhaust, MSD, and intake.
Ok and one more thing. I drove it with a friend the other day and he said it had a shift kit on the tranny. Now the shifter and everything looks stock to me. I am used to stick shift though. Anyway it REALLY KICKS when it shifts. It kinda throws you back in the seat. So I was wondering if you think that may be a shift kit or do these shift like that? OH WAIT! Ok and I said i wanted to get it chipped and he said it already was. I don't believe him because I hit the governor at 115mph. Also I was reading up on these and the 95's cannot be chipped you have to have the stuff sodered onto the ECM or have it sent to PCMforless to have them do it.
So anything you can tell me would help I want to make this thing the business! Oh and by the way I smoked an almost new M3 today. Don't know if that means much

wow...lots of questions, lol.

you could try pulling the valve cover and see if there are different rockers in there. that MAY be able to tell us if it has a different cam. otherwise there's really no way to tell without pulling the cam out. and no, a cam doesn't necessarily make your check engine light go on

unless he did a complete rebuild, i'm guessing your engine doesn't have any different piston in it. and if all he did was pistons, then he kind of wasted his time. i'm guessing he would have told you the engine is rebuilt.

shift kit is quite possible. lots of people do those and yes it will make your car shift a lot firmer. your shifter will remain stock, a shift kit goes inside the transmission itself so you won't see anything visually different.

your car technically can be chipped, but it only works for a short time. you must send your computer out to be tuned by someone competent in tuning computers. or you can get it dyno tuned which is far better than any mail order tune

hopefully i answered most of your questions

and your check gages light means to look at the gages. you must have one thats not working right or is in a place its not supposed to be. like 0 oil pressure or low volts or high temp. are the gages working correctly?

Ok thanks this info helps. They guy I got it from didn't mention it having a rebuild but I am pretty sure he was not the owner who had the stuff put on. Just guessing though. I will have to pull the valve covers cause I really want to know. I heard dyno tunes can be anywhere from $100.00-$150.00. Is that per run? Also nobody answered the shift kit question :P Oh and to the reply above this one... I didn't mean does my car not have a cam at all, I meant an aftermarket performance one

Oh and I forgot to mention that it has 167,000 miles on it. I feel like after looking around this might be nearing the life expectancy of an LT-1 but really runs like new, and is a total beast, so that's why I feel like it may have had a rebuild done. It doesn't leak or burn a drop of anything

HA ok and forgot again. My check gauges light boggles me a little bit. Would it turn on if one of the bulbs was burnt out? Cause all my gauges work fine, it just seems like the light around the 2k rpm mark is dimmer than the rest of the cluster

i would have to do some reading to answer that one. not sure but could. lol. 2300 sounds like a steal. have you had it scanned yet to see if any trouble codes are stored in there?
