Default Help!!! On side of road need help asap

I was getting on the freeway. in 2nd at 3500 rpm. Went to floor it and it backfired and died. It won't start. It engages, then sputters for like 20 seconds going between 300 and 500 rpm, then dies. smoke out the tailpipe and the intake manifold.

got error MALF 16 lo res fail

and map high and map low

and eeprom error.

vehicle is 95 z28

Best guess, your computer took a crap. The EEPROM error makes me think that you need to call a tow.

check the main computer, its in the cuby on the passenger side fenderwell next to the firewall. check for water and damaged lose or unplugged conectors. 16 is usually the opti.

read something about icm getting heat soaked. is that a possiblility? What are symptoms of opti going bad? icm going bad?

water in the connectors can make it go wacko. opti and pcm/ecu/ecm can make it do just what your seeing. i would say most likely the later, have not seen a failing opti set off a failing eprom code.

try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes like 5. clear the computer. the only thing i can think of besides water or bad wires. otherwixe its tow time.

The Silver Bullet is dead... Time to pull the motor. Back to driving the P71... damn... This sucks. Any recommendations as to what I should do or get when I get the motor out?
