Help! No Heat

Looking for someone who has been there and done that. I have a 97 Z 6M with all the bolt on goodies. As it is starting to get cool at nights, I have no heat. Everything is hooked up, AC works great but no heat. When I turn on the defrost it gets cold like AC. Temp runs about 180 and even when it creeps up a bit I still have no heat. Plenty of flow from the fan into the cabin but not warm air. Car recently got Hooker Headers installed. Any thoughts? Thanks!

There is no water valve on the 97s, coolant continually flows to the heater core. Check the hoses to the heater when the engine is hot & running, if they are cold comapred to the radiator hose, the heater core is clogged. Also make sure that the air doors work when you turn the Temp ****. The control cable can come loose and the air doors are stuck in one position.

Thanks Pete. I had heat for a while today then it seemed to go away. I took the control module off (front) and jiggled the temo **** back and forth. I can hear the door opening and closing when I go to full heat. Like I said though, I had heat out cruising a bit today then lost it. Any thoughts? How hard to get at the heater core?
Many thanks!

Try flushing out the heater core with a garden hose. Remove both heater hoses from the heater and use the garden hose to force clean water through the heater core. Also, one of the heater hoses , at the front connection, has a restrictor inserted into it to slow down flow. This can get clogged if the coolant isn't replaced regularly. The heater core is cheap but a pain to remove.
Is the engine staying at the proper temp while cruising? If it is not, the tstat may have been removed or sticking open.

It runs where it is supposed to at cruise. At about 180. It creeps up sitting at lights then goes back down once I start moving. I removed everything all the way to the core and it was getting hot. Mostly on top though. Not as hot on the bottom. So I know there is some flow. I checked all connections and they are tight. Vent door closes all the way like it should. Fan blows strong. Odd thing is, I will have heat for a while, then it goes to cooler air. I will try the flush though, couldn't hurt. Thanks for your time!
