and yes the engine acts the same if its hot or cold?

Maybe the block is stuck... meaning try flushing out the system with high pressure water till all the gunk comes out and you have a nice stream coming from your inlet and outlet pipes... flush through the heater core hose going to the radiator, then from the inlet and then from the outlet... if its not it then its still a good thing to do

As far as burnt tranny fluid it could be because of blockage somewhere so the fluid never cools down so it just heats up.. as far as the optispark goes im not sure... while you flush it out replace the optispark anyway just make sure you dont get water on the new one

what trouble codes did they get? it would help if we knew. can u record the car sounds and a drive down the block and back. just hearing it would help. well if the opti is going it can throw the timing and that will make it run hot and like crap. if u got gunk from the coolant system it may have gunked up the thermostat. who put the radiator in and what kind. are the fans coming on? if so when,,, what temp? did u bleed the air out of the coolant system after flushing?

ok i took it to get emmisions and surprise! it failed.lol
results:
HYDROCARBONS (HC) IN GRAMS/MILE 3.82 applicable standard 0.80
CARBON MONOXIDE (CO) IN GRAMS/MILE 87.51 appilicable standard 12.00

it obviously failed pretty bad.. said it was getting too much fuel and to check the throttle body vacuum hoses injectors or spark and ignition..so does this point to the optispark or what >?? lol

soo have u had it scanned for trouble codes? could be the distributor also called a opti or coil or ignition modual or maf or a number of other things. if its got some codes stored it would give us an idea were to start.
