Default Header and Valve question

I know these are pretty unrelated, but both are problems I'm currently having: (97 lt1 trans am btw)
Does anyone know the proper valve adjustment method? I'm lost in the sauce on this one, but I want to do it myself.

My driver side header is leaking on the last port by the firewall. The two bolts on that one pipe were very loose, so I tightened them, but I guess the gasket is shot. How hard is it to replace the gasket? (the headers were on when I bought the car) What gasket do you guys recommend? And should I replace the bolts also? Thanks for any help.

I bought a new set of bolts and I believe they helped the install go easier as they weren't all rusty and had good corners. I also used the Percy's Seal 4 Good. I got them at Autozone.

Ok, here is the old school method which i still use

remove valve cover

start engine

one rocker at a time, loosen until I hear clacking

tighten until clacking goes away, tighten for 1/3 to 1/2 turn more

move on to next rocker
