Default Hard Start, Difficult to accelerate under light throttle, Hesitation-Troubleshoot

I have a 95 z28, 150,xxx on the car with about 45,xxx on the reman engine. This has been going on for the last year, and lately is getting bad enough that we do not like to drive the car for fear that it wont start.

Symptoms are a hard, slow start. When you try to start it it will crank, and contiune to crank, but sometimes will not start. It seems help if you turn the key on, wait 30 seconds, then start it. Sometimes you have to turn on the key, wait, bump it, then start it. Once it is running the car runs absolutely terrible under light throttle. You give it gas from a stop sign and it sputters and misses, for 2-5 seconds, barely moving until you get going. Highway speeds, 55 and over, it seems to do ok. If you punch it it does not sputter or miss.

Any ideas on where to start for trouble shooting and checking? I am hoping it is something I can fix myself, since funds are a little tight currently.

TIA,
Alex

Opti, spark plugs, wires, TPS, fuel pressure (pump/regulator). All things I would go about to look at. I would bet some of my money towards the Opti, though.

if you have access to a scanner have it scanned for trouble codes. see if you can pick up a idea of what it is
