Default Hard to Start

Hey guys, I'm having an intermittent hard starting problem. A while back I did a fuel pressure test, and while idling it would hold a steady 41 psi, but when the car was shut off the pressure would instantly drop to 5 psi. I replaced all of the injectors, fuel pressure regulator, and fuel filter. It seemed to help for a while, but my problem is back again. I recently replaced my MAF connector. Could this affect it at all? My intake gets pretty hot. Yesterday when I tried to start it there was smoke coming from the intake. Swapped some wires on the connector and all was well. It'll crank for a good ten seconds before it starts, but sometimes it starts instantly. Any ideas? Is the intake getting hot normal?

Most likely the check valve in the fuel pump has failed, allowing the fuel pressure to drop instantly. If that is the case, the fuel pump needs to be replaced.

Two of the 3 wires were swapped with each other. It's difficult to tell the color on the harness because they wrapped the entire thing with electrical tape and slimed it up.

I posted another thread asking a question thinking this thread would die.

But pretty much:
I pulled my fuel rail today to check my injectors. I turned the key to the run position without turning over the motor and at,least 5 injectors pulsed. I removed all of the connectors to the injectors and tried again, and no fuel came out at all. Is it normal for the injectors to shoot a jet of fuel when first primed? This is the second set to do this.

its the check valve in the pump for sure.

when you start the car. turn the key on for a couple sec and off and on again waiting a couple sec to prime the pump. then start it

I've been doing that and it seems to work. Really didn't want to shell out 300 for a new pump.

mine did that and it was the fuel pressure regulator, presure was way high, like 60 lbs. once i got a fpr that worked right (took three) it was fine.

It's your check valve for sure. Easy fix, replace the pump.

Priming any electric fuel pump before starting the car will always get you more life out of the pump. The pump won't have to run without fuel the 1st time you start it. If you prime it, then start it, the pump always has fuel to push.
