Fuel Efficient Driving
So I was just wondering the most fuel efficient way to drive the car. Here is how I drive.
1st gear...shift at 1500 RPM - 2000RPM
2nd gear... shift at 1500 RPM - 2000 RPM
3rd gear... shift at 1500 RPM - 2000 RPM
4th gear... shift at 2000 RPM - 2200 RPM
5th gear... shift at 2000 RPM - 2200 RPM
How does everyone else shift ? Does anyone skip gears ?
Thanks !

got 26 to 28 with my first 93 lt1 and get 22 to 25 with this one. still trying to figure out why. think its in the sensors but cant find it. going to change to a fast ignition when i can afford it. i have the 700r4 auto trans so it has the od.
With my A4 and 3.23s out back I was getting about 22 average during the summer. (I'd guess it was 18 and 26 for around town and highway, respectively) I found (for me) that the most fuel efficient way to drive was by using 2nd gear A LOT. I'd make the car short shift first (with fancy pedal control :P lol), hold second until about 2800 rpms, and then let it do its thing for 3rd and 4th. I think this worked well because I didn't end up getting into the high rpms in 1st, and 3rd/4th aren't as efficient as 2nd in terms of acceleration. (And all these figured are including frequent WOT runs)
If I had to guess for driving a manual, I'd do a 1-3-4-5, or 1-3-4-6, depending on what will end up being cruising speed. I haven't driven a 6-speed f-body before, so I don't know exactly how the car acts in each of the gears.

yea, imalixZ28, my mileage is about the same. 230 is about tops. Idk why it doesn't get more. Haha...oh well....I guess it's a thirsty V8 !
Is yours an auto or 6 speed ?

I have no idea why though
