the timing gear is not related to the water pump pulley. that all sits behind. the timing gear should not be swapped unless damaged and then only replaced with an OEM parts, otherwise you bend valves and break stuff. the electric pump should come with an idler pulley, if not you need to just get a different sized belt

u sure? im not an lt1 owner, but every engine ive ever seen has a pulley for the water pump, and is driven as an accessory just like the alternator, same belt actually. the timing chain connects only your crank to your cam and nothing else (again, on every other motor ive seen) ill look for some pics...... gimme a sec

wow, ur right. i didnt a little reading. the water pump is driven off of a spindle, and in the electric water pump install guideClick Me he says you can just remove the piece that connects it to the spindle because it isnt needed.

sorry about the mix up, but part of what i said is still valid. you simply plug the hole with a freeze plug. the timing chain and gear remains behind the timing cover during the entire process. regardless of what u do and what u take apart, the cam gear/crank gear tooth ratio should NEVAR CHANGE!!@ otherwise you will break your motor, also, if you remove the cam gear for any reason it must be lined back up on the proper tooth to avoid damage.

You can use any small block timing chain and gears once you do away with the water pump drive. However; some timing sets interfere with the LT1 front cover, so check with the manufacturer before you buy.
